ACT
The ACT test measures a student's aptitude in English, math, reading and science. There is also an optional writing section on the test. Many colleges require students to submit ACT scores when they apply for admission. Most students take the ACT test during their junior and/or senior year of high school. This test is offered on specified Saturdays in September, October, December, February, April, and June. See the counselor and www.actstudent.org for more information and to register for the test. **IMPORTANT: When registering for the ACT, Maryville students MUST list the school code for Maryville High School (262-135) in order for our school to receive the score to print on the student's transcript!!
PLAN
This test is a preliminary ACT test given in October to Maryville High School sophomores. Like the ACT, it measures a student's aptitude in English, math, reading and science. It also includes an interest inventory, questions about you, your plans, your needs, your goals, information about educational and financial aid programs offered by colleges, scholarship and government agencies, and professional associations through the PLAN Educactional Opportunity Service. Students will receive personalized PLAN test results that can help make plans and decisions for the remainder of high school. See the counselor and www.actstudent.org/plan for more information.
PSAT/NMSQT
This is the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The PSAT is offered to MHS 10th and 11th graders in October each year. Juniors who achieve high scores on this test and meet other requirements can qualify for the National Merit Scholarship (www.nationalmerit.org). PSAT test results are returned to students in December each year. See the counsleor and the PSAT website for more information.
SAT
The SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) measures a student's math, verbal reasoning, and writing skills. Some colleges (primarily on the east and west coasts) require students submit an SAT test score when they apply for admission. ASVAB
This is the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery. The battery of tests is required of all students who enter the military. Any junior or senior may take the test without military obligation. The test provides scores in 8 subtest areas, along with matching students to appropriate careers. All MHS juniors take the ASVAB in October. Missouri End-of-Course Exams
These are state mandated exams that all students must complete before graduation. Students will take each test when they have completed course content in the following subjects: American Government, Algebra I, Biology, and English II.
